Last year you, our members, voted overwhelmingly to retain, support and promote LILAC

The new Collective was elected and we started 2020 with all sorts of ideas.
Then Covid-19 struck and life as we knew it changed.

However, we seem to be getting back to “normal” and so we are looking to carry out the decisions of the 2019 AGM.

Help us by bringing your enthusiasm, skills, and ideas to Lilac

Lilac has a unique space in Wellington - the only space for lesbians, bi women, and queer women. This year we began to explore a range of ways to use this space. While that hit a hiccup, we’re still keen to get some things going.

We’d like to encourage all of the library community to approach members of the Collective if you want to run activities and use the space.

Fundraising is still a major priority for the Collective and our next event (after the AGM, 6pm on Thursday, 19 November!!) is the Circa production by Hens’ Teeth, “The Older the Better”. Our LILAC night is Tuesday, 8 December. All the details are on our website. and on facebook. Feel free to circulate the occasion widely ... we are happy to take money from most people, not only lesbians! Please buy your tickets before 3rd December.

Talking of the AGM (see above), the Annual Report has been circulated, the Financial Report and auditor’s statement are on our web site and will be emailed to members shortly. There are no constitutional amendments from the Collective and as the deadline for amendments from members closed on 30 October without any being received, that is one item less to discuss. Nominations for the Collective also closed on 30 October. There are eight women nominated so far, so we will be looking for two more from the AGM. Think about it and if you are willing to contribute to the support and promotion of LILAC, please consider nomination at the AGM.

We look forward to seeing more and more of our members visit our premises at 187 Willis Street - 2nd floor take the lift or stairs – bring ideas to use the space for other activities, or just relax and enjoy this special place.

Stay safe and warm in these extended winter days.

Nga mihi nui
