We try to buy DVDs that are encoded for region 4 (our part of the world) or all regions (everywhere) but sometimes the only versions available are encoded for other regions. These will play just fine in DVD players that are able to play DVDs for any region. But laptops sold in New Zealand are locked down for region 4 DVDs.
